Toothache or dental infection? Our specialist endodontist helps save damaged teeth wherever possible.

Endodontics is the specialised field of dentistry that addresses issues within the tooth, including the nerves and blood vessels. Our Endodontic Specialist is a qualified dentist with extensive training and expertise in effectively treating these conditions.
At Tavistock Dental, our specialist endodontist uses state-of-the-art equipment to perform root canal procedures with precision and care. Many patients are referred to us by other dentists for complex root canal treatment.
Dental implants were first used in the 1960s. Since then, they have quickly become the first choice for replacing missing teeth. Strictly speaking, dental implants are a ‘screw’ which acts as a root. Crowns, bridges and dentures can be attached over the top of dental implants to help restore missing teeth.
Many patients are referred to Tavistock Dental by their own dentists for complex root canal treatment and endodontic care. Our specialist endodontist, Dr Adnan Chowdry, focuses exclusively on diagnosing and treating problems affecting the inside of the tooth, helping patients preserve their natural teeth wherever possible.
Using advanced equipment and a meticulous approach to treatment, Dr Adnan provides high-quality root canal therapy for patients experiencing toothache, dental infection, abscesses, or previously failed root canal treatment. His calm and thorough approach helps patients feel reassured throughout every stage of treatment.
Dr Adnan Chowdry is our specialist endodontist, having completed his specialist training at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute after studying at King’s College London. Alongside treating referred patients from across London, he is known for his attention to detail and commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for patients.

What is root canal treatment?
It is treatment that is carried out to relieve pain and help save a tooth that may have been damaged by decay, infection or fracture.
What is involved in root canal treatment?
You would usually see the specialist for a consultation unless you have been referred by your dentist. Once you fully understand your options and costs we would arrange for treatment to be carried out. Local anaesthetic is used to make the treatment as comfortable as possible and the root canal system in the tooth is cleaned out and filled so that you will no longer be in pain. The tooth may need a filling or some form of crown afterwards. This would be discussed prior to treatment starting.
Will root canal treatment hurt?
If carried out correctly, root canal treatment does not need to be uncomfortable. Our specialist endodontists carry out only root canal treatment and are very experienced in ensuring the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
What is the alternative to root canal treatment?
It would be to extract the tooth altogether. We would advise to always save your natural teeth where possible. If you lose a tooth the gap should be replaced by a denture, implant or bridge to restore your chewing function and appearance.
Who is the best person to carry out root canal treatment?
Like most things in life, some people are better at some things than other people. A root canal specialist is a person who has carried out a further three years of training in root canal treatment than a general dentist. They then have to pass a rigorous examination before they are accepted onto the specialist register kept by the General Dental Council. Root canal specialists tend to have better success rates due to more expertise and better equipment used to treat patients. It is for this reason many general dentists refer patients to root canal specialists.
How long does root canal treatment take?
The length of treatment depends on the tooth being treated and the complexity of the case. Some treatments can be completed in a single visit, while others may require multiple appointments.
At Tavistock Dental, we take pride in our role as a leading Dental Implant Centre and Specialist Referral Practice.
